You are not there because the Union cares about the rights of workers. Your prevailing wage speech was touching but bullshit.Answer me this. If all the Commercial Interiors Carpenters walked of that job and wanted to join the Union would they sign them .ABSOLUTELY NOT. So your BS propaganda about workers wages is just that Bull Shit. Your there to prove that some little shit bag like Morin or Weir is going to force you to do something or else. Your there because some local company wont sign and pay kickbacks to the Empire Carpenters.That is called extortion.
You are forced to be there or risk being thrown out of the Union. Your struggling to make hours for health care. You have no democratic rights. Your assessment is being used to pay ridiculous salary's such as 70 grand for organizers who dont organize shit. 70 grand plus for organizers who dont sign anybody. Your assessment is being used to pay for trips to Vegas and triple Pensions for Empire Council assholes. Your little bitch Patty Morin makes $300,000 a year plus Pension contributions while you struggle to make hours. Is this what you want the Commercial Interiors workers to sign into??.
If those workers walked off that job to join the Carpenters Mark Sowalski would not sign them. so WHY ARE YOU THERE?? Sowalski will NOT sign any journeymen.He has however signed 26 new apprentices. WHY.We have 125 on the List. Of that 32 are out of area Carpenters who if employed will pay into their welfare funds and not ours.Thats 93 left.Sowalski says ALL apprentices are on the list. I asked if he was sending out apprentices before Journeymen.He said no they were all on the list. Thats 26 new 1st year and 30 that they just moved up to second year.So 93 -56 is 37 actual journeymen 370 members on the list. Why have we gone back 15 years in our thinking to NOT sign members that come in looking to join. Why are we signing 56 new apprentices. To provide low cost Carpenters to the employers or to fill Patty Morins 30 dollar a credited year Pension fund.Why do we not sign experienced journeymen but give Union books to potheads who fail apprenticeship drug tests.
So tell me again.WHY ARE YOU THERE.Local 370 could give a rats as about workers. Your there to extort a contractor. Your there to prove that some council or local 370 shit bag owns you.
We have a huge job coming up in Malta. Its is projected by experts that this area will suffer a skilled labor shortage if jobs like the Convention Center go. What steps has the Local 370 genius taken to meet that demand. Have they signed new members. Have they prepared these new members with the OSHA 10 requirement and clean room training or other needed specialty training so that we have the members to meet the demand. NO. We have signed 26 new apprentices. We will call in out of area Carpenters instead of building our Local back up. While I support other Union Carpenters coming in to work I also support our Local becoming healthy first. I dont support filling the pockets of some Empire Council shit bag who has already lost millions of fund money due to their stupidity and greed.
